You know, I really do miss blogging. It’s been a while, and I just wanted to check in and talk a bit about where things are at. Fair warning — this post might ramble a little, but that’s kind of fitting for where my life’s been lately.
For a long time, I had a morning routine that really worked for me.
I’d wake up at 4:45, shower, and spend about 30–60 minutes downstairs in my basement — playing a turn of a game, painting a miniature, organizing something, whatever caught my attention that day. Then I’d head out for my hour-long drive to work, come home, spend some time with the family, and call it a night.
That little window of time in the morning added up. I made progress on projects, stayed creative, and felt really connected to my hobbies.
Then life shifted a bit — in good ways! My wife started a new job last year, which meant my mornings changed since I needed to handle daycare drop-offs. No big deal — I figured I’d get my early mornings back over the summer.
Except… we got a dog. And as anyone who’s had a puppy knows, that kind of upends every schedule you thought you had. So, my mornings stayed later, and my old “creative time” never really came back.
These days I’m up around 6:30, getting my daughter ready for school, heading to work around 9, and getting home later. There’s not really a chunk of time to dive into projects, and yeah, it’s slowed things down — both in gaming and blogging.
That said, these are all good changes. My family’s happy, and that’s what matters most. I just need to figure out how to fit hobbies into this new version of life.
Right now, that probably means shifting focus. Unboxings and detailed playthroughs (despite the fact I absolutely love the latter) might be off the table (they take a lot more setup and time than I can spare), but I might lean more into card games. I love talking about decks, exploring different card interactions, and just seeing how games evolve.
I used to do this a lot with my friend Eric S — we’d go through the Star Wars LCG, cycle by cycle, playing every objective set just to see how it all worked. I still think about how fun that was. These days I get most of my gaming in with family, usually Magic, Dragon Ball Super: Fusion World, One Piece, Star Wars Unlimited, and a few others. I try to mix it up and get a variety of cards on the table, even if some decks never see much play.
Miniature gaming’s been tougher. Between prep time and painting, it’s hard to keep momentum going. I had dreams of going to Bokur Brawl and other local tournaments, but the timing just never lined up. My local shop, Bazooka Games, even had a Warmachine tournament recently — one of my favorite games, right around the corner — but I just don’t have an army ready. It stings a little, but I know I’ll get back to it eventually.
As for blogging, I’m not totally sure where it’ll go next. Maybe shorter posts about card games, some casual thoughts about design, or highlights from the occasional gaming weekend (like the one we did over Columbus Day — that one’s definitely getting a post soon).
So yeah — things are different, but not bad. I’m just figuring out how to make time for the stuff I love again. Thanks for hanging around while I do.
