Obligatory Games-Workshop GT circuit post

So GW posted their list of the tournaments in their GT circuit this upcoming year, and there's one in Baltimore (ICGT from July 10th-11th) that looks like it will have Fantasy, 40K, AND War of the Ring (or Lord of the Rings?) tournaments.

I'm sure I'm nowhere near having a painted enough army (or even assembled enough) to be ready for it, but it's certainly nice to think about. Of course, which one would I go to? Fantasy has fairly unbalanced army books at present (although I play Dark Elves, who are considered top tier), 40K will be nearly impossible for me to paint in time (Sisters take FOREVER for me to paint), and I've yet to play a game of War of the Ring.... hmmm....

Maybe I should just try playing in smaller, local tournaments this year and shoot for 2011? I really need to just get some experience in tournament games. I really want to play in the GT circuit, just for the experience, but alas, it will have to wait :(.

So much to do!

  1. Well I have to say that although the Finnish GT is surely not as grand as in the US or GB, it was a really pleasent event. Small tournaments are fun, and I really encourage to attend them, but having a set goal to work towards, like a GT, really works for me. And I say 40k! :P

  2. I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure I won't be ready for this event, but I will definitely use this year to participate in some tournaments. It'll be a great experience!

Of course, I expect to lose, but at least I'll keep being motivated to get my army running and painted.

  3. A tournament is definitely a good way to get painting motivation. Even a game can be enough for you to get your vibe going. I'm playing against Old Shatter Hands ( on Thursday and I've got a Huntsman Spider Tank ( that is currently only primed. Since OSH has such a nicely painted army, I really need to bring my model up to scratch for the game.

My advice is that you need to play someone who has a blog where they will post up a battle report. I don't want my models to look bad on the interweb and so I've got my motivation up to paint the spider tank.

  4. No kidding- every time I play in the GW battle bunker (in Glen Burnie) I feel the need to paint (some people have such beautiful armies!). I really need to get to it.

One of my 40K opponents, Ben, has a fairly new blog (, but we are both really lazy, and thus never bring our cameras. One of my fantasy opponents, Frans, DID take pictures of my shoddy, unpainted army, but never posted them on his. That's something we need to start doing though.

That thing looks AWESOME! Very fun looking.

  5. Hey if you are around near Glen Burnie on Saturday 12th December, there is a small 40k tournament (1850 pts, about 20 players so far). You should come along and play if you can.

Get in touch with Old Shatter Hands and he can register you for it.

  6. Hmmm, I might give it a shot, actually. This at the Battle Bunker? I'm almost within walking distance, haha.

    Are there painting requirements?

  7. Well i told a small porkie. It's actually at Games and Comics and Stuff in Glen Burnie.

The details can be found on OSH's blog (

$5 entry and best painted will win a prize, but I don't think painted armies are required. Recommended but not required.

  8. I'll know by the end of the week if I'll be able to go. Would certainly love to make it, that's for sure. Games and Stuff is pretty close as well, thankfully (since Glen Burnie is sooooo big of course, haha).

How often to people play GW games at Games and Stuff? I can't remember the last time I saw a non-Privateer Press, non-FW miniature game played there.
