Accomplishments for September

Well, the competition continues, but I'm really not in it much this month, sadly.

Painting: I put about half a layer of red onto a Titan Gladiator, but that's all.

Assembly: Assembled Hexeris, Xerxis, Molik Karn, the Cankerworm, an Agonizer, a unit of Praetorian Swordsmen + the Unit Attachment, and Bane Lord Tartarus.

Gaming: 2 Games of Blood Bowl, 2 games of Warmachine, one at 50 points, one at 35, a game of Arcane Legions, 2 25 point games of Hordes, and a 2500 point game of Warhammer Fantasy. Definitely got a lot of variety this month :).

Blogging: Well, you can just see from the blog what I did last month. I also started up a new side (blog) project: the Triple Skull Blood Bowl League.  I love Blood Bowl, so I have a semi-solo league with one of every race in it, to get some experience and enjoyment out of it, as well as impetus to work on all my Blood Bowl miniatures.  I also try to keep it all 'in character' of sorts.  Check it out if you're at all interested in Blood Bowl, I could really use some feedback :).

Anyway, we'll get our local competition results up soon, I'm not sure I got any points this month, but one never knows.

Oh, sweet sweet Specialist Games

Alright, as for my goals with the other GW games.

Lord of the Rings/War of the Ring: Not really a specialist game, but close enough. I love the game system, love the models, and LOVE scenario play. I am hoping to use the scenarios as my impetus for getting/assembling/painting the models. Like I said, I have goals of running through the Fellowship of the Ring book with Rob. Including the terrain construction, this is going to be a great hobby extravaganza. Beyond that, I won't NEED to buy more models!

Battlefleet Gothic: I have an Imperial Fleet, and a Dark Eldar fleet. I want to get a Necron fleet, and a Chaos Space Marine fleet (so I have a basic one to teach with). I BADLY want to get opponents for this game, it plays FANTASTIC as a campaign game. First, assemble the other two fleets I want, then write a great set of campaign rules, then try to get people to play!

Epic: I have a Space Marine army... but I've never played (although I know the rules). My eventual goal for this game is just to find opponents and play, lol. Then I can go from there ;).

Warmaster: Hey, same with this. Know the rules, own two armies, still haven't played. Badly want to!

Blood Bowl: Own several teams, want to start several more! Amazons, Vampires, Chaos Dwarfs, and Khemri to start. It's not too expensive to get a team going. Around here, we've slowly talked about getting a league going. I need to push that. Let the Dark Elves get their gaming on!

Necromunda: Next gang will be an Enforcer game. Need to find opponents, then maybe another goal. *sigh.

Mordheim: There are actually opponents down here! I want to build an Undead warband, preferably all converted (as is my goal with all Mordheim gangs), then get into a campaign. That's my goal!

My Specialist games goals are pretty depressing, honestly. If only I got to play them more, then I could actually have more. Maybe my real goals should just be PLAY THEM. *sigh :(

Blood Bowl, Book Read, and whatever else

Not a whole lot happening at the moment, but did manage to get a game of Blood Bowl in on Saturday vs Ben, primarily as a teaching game.

I used Dark Elves, 9 LineElves, 2 Blitzers, 3 Rerolls, 1 FF, 1 AC (no point saving money in a one-off game).

Ben used Lizardmen, and took 6 Saurus, 5 Skinks, 3 RR, 2 FF, 1 CL, 1 AC.

The score ended 1-1, but it really should have been higher (one way or the other). We had some of the worst luck I've ever seen in a game. Just sloppy ball handling (and terrible blocking) all throughout the game.

Overall, it was still a good time, although I would've loved to win!

I finished reading Palace of the Plague Lord by C.L. Werner. Overall, it was just okay- but it did have two things going for it.

First, it made me want to play the Path to Glory ruleset that Games Workshop put out at one point. Basically, it was a way for people to create Chaos Warbands and play skirmish games against one another, and have your members level up with experience, as well as draw in new recruits. It was a pretty fun little side-game, and had lots of easy modeling opportunities for newer gamers.

Second, I loved the description of the Plague Dragon Bubos, from the book. I think it's going to be a conversion project at some point :).

Next book is the second Space Wolf Omnibus. The series has been great so far, so I'm looking foward to getting through it.

And finally- next year I will be posting pics of my games, which means I won't be using 'counts as' in ANY game from now on. That's more of a personal challenge than anything- should get me off my butt to finish these armies!!

  • American 101st Airborne Division (just starting... slowly)
I also own TONS of boardgames, and bits and pieces for several more games, but these are all armies I could run on short notice.

Of course... none are painted, or even close. Or even started in most cases. I will use this blog to talk about my progress too, as I see fit :)

Edit- these now will link to army lists, and I will list painting progress for that army on that page.
