Accomplishments for November

Alright, another month down!  What did I do?

Painting: I made some progress on my Titan Gladiator, finally.  It's not much, but I finished the red and began painting the bronze.  Hopefully I can have him done by the year end (if I push myself!)

Here are the current pictures (thanks Rob!).

Assembly: I began working on assembling a 3-man unit of Soulhunters (the Cryx light cavalry). They've been filed, washed, and I've started assembling them, but they aren't finished. Surprisingly, I've also been working on some 40K miniatures- I began filing and working on a unit of Khorne Berserkers! Not very far along though, I admit.

Gaming: Played 4 games with my Cryx (25 pts vs BK, 35 pts vs Rob twice, and 25 pts vs Ben), 1 game with my Skorne (35 pts vs Rob), and 2 solo games of Blood Bowl.

Blogging: Like always, you can just look at my blog(s) to see what I've posted last month.

Painting Progress for the month!

I actually did some painting, which is in itself a bit of a surprise.

Now, due to free time, I didn't paint a whole lot, but I found that now that I've decided to paint stuff up, even the 15-20 minutes I paint 2-3 times a week definitely gives me some progress!

Here are some pictures of my (small) progress:

Cyclops Savage:

They basically received two layers of GW Mechrite Red.

Titan Gladiator:

I started with two thin layers of Vallejo Bluegrey Pale (VMC 905). It dried a lot bluer than I thought it would, however.

I followed it up with a very light layer of GW Codex Grey, which seems to have done the trick. I've started painting the red on the Titan as well, but that will be finished by the end of the week (therefore next month).

Next step will be to get the rest of the basic colors in place on the models, then highlight up to Skorne Red as well as the various gold shades I need. The flags are going to take some work as well- I plan to try some blending on the Titan flag (mainly because I need the practice).

Also, I need to work on taking pictures. I know.

So, not amazing progress, but definitely a start!

Weekend update

Well, not a lot happening hobby-wise, but a few updates.

Made some progress painting finally! My unit of Cold One Knights has paint on it, and could be done by the end of the week (unlikely, but possible). I'm really excited about them. Of course, I'll post pictures when I get around to it.

I tried Warhammer: Invasion over the weekend. It's FANTASTIC. I really need to play more games though, see how well it works with some of the other factions (we just played Dwarfs vs Chaos). The game has a lot of potential though- there's a lot of decision-making, which makes it more tactical for a card game than I'm used to.

Also, me and Rob played another game of Monsterpocalypse. I used Mogroth and Rob used Grindix-Birvikaan. The matchup was pretty terrible for Rob, given his unit selections. His units could do absolutely nothing to my alpha form, and his monster was on the receiving end of a vicious slam, really hurting his chances to get back in the game (meaning that yes, I won!). Mogroth seems very very good (Terrify + Decoy is AMAZING versus units), but I think if a player takes some Explosion and Multi-Shot, you can really help keep yourself in the fight. I'd have to try sometime, however.

Also, I updated my list of Monsterpocalypse monsters I haven't beat Rob with. Including the new monsters, haha.

Nothing else going on, and I'm sure this holiday season will be slow, but I will have some new things come the next year!

Painting for Points

So, I've been playing Games Workshop games since 2001, and have painted very very very little. I still do not have a painted army.

This is hopefully going to change :). One of my friends has suggested we start with a painting challenge in the gaming group in order to get our armies slowly painted. That's a great idea, of course, but I own a ton of miniatures for games that none of them play. I need a way to motivate myself to get them painted.

So, a lot of other blogs use a system called Painting for Points, started (I believe) by Lone Pilgrim. I've seen a few things added to it, so that's what I'm going to work off of.

Basically, I get a number of points equal to the number of painted models. We're talking completed here.

  • Infantry - 1 point
  • Cavalry, bikes, 40mm miniatures (Ogres, or slightly larger 40K things) - 2 points
  • Monsters, Dreadnoughts, Heavy Warjacks - 5 points
  • Vehicle - 10 points
  • Superheavy Vehicle (I have soooo many) - 2o points
A few games I own aren't covered here, but I'll add them in as I start painting them (the Epic/Warmaster models will take some work, for instance).

Since I've begun playing, I've painted... let me count... 29 points. Seriously, that's it.

Next year, I'll have a full goal, of course, but for the remainder of this year, we're going to shoot for ANYTHING.

500 pt list for painting

Alright, time to come up with 500 points to paint by the end of the month for our gaming group painting challenge. Overpowering awesome-ness isn't really the goal, just painting stuff is. So to that end, we've got a nice balanced list to work with.

Master w/ Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak, Cold One - 114
10 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen w/ musician - 105
5 Dark Riders w/ repeater crossbows, musician - 117
5 Cold One Knights w/Musician, Standard Bearer - 159
Total: 495 points

I'm getting kind of a late start to this, so I chose a primarily cavalry force, so I'll have a lower number of models to paint (although cav models aren't exactly speedy). 21 models by the end of the month? We'll see!

Space Hulk

So, got my Space Hulk Battlefoam today. Fits pretty well into the box (although had to watch the video to get the corridors fitting moderately. Doesn't close quite as well, and one Genestealer doesn't fit (and for the life of me couldn't figure it out), but otherwise plenty happy. This also means I've succeeded in assembling all of my Space Hulk miniatures. Now I just need some games!

Either later this week or next week, I'm going to start with some terrain or painting stuff. I'm going to try my hand at building some random terrain (probably out of a No Quarter or White Dwarf magazine), as well as begin doing the work for converting/painting/finishing my Dark Elf lord (from my army list). Also, maybe a game of Monsterpocalypse with Rob tomorrow (and maybe our new figures will come in??). And finally, will start working on some of my 40K stuff! Busy busy! Will keep ya posted!
